Jensen Huang (Huang Jen-Hsun) was born in Tainan, Taiwan, in 1963 and moved to the United States as a child. He earned an electrical engineering degree from Oregon State University and a master’s from Stanford, worked at LSI Logic and AMD, and in April 1993 co-founded Nvidia with Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem. He has been chief executive ever since, one of the longest runs of any founder-CEO in big tech.
Under Huang, Nvidia bet early on the GPU and then on CUDA, the software layer that let researchers use graphics chips for general computing. That bet is why Nvidia now supplies the accelerators inside most AI training clusters. His trademark leather jacket and keynote demos have made him the public face of the AI hardware boom.
For a sense of how much money now flows to his chips, see our breakdown of AI data center stocks and how much CoreWeave spends on data centers each quarter.
