Super Micro Computer reported results for the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year, which ended in September, after the market closed on November 3, 2026. Both headline numbers came in well above Wall Street forecasts.

Super Micro builds servers and full racks around Nvidia and AMD accelerators, so its sales are a fast read on how much AI hardware is being deployed. A revenue beat of more than $3 billion says customers took delivery of a lot of AI systems in the summer quarter.

SMCI Guidance: Fiscal Q2 and Full-Year 2027

The outlook was the bigger surprise. Super Micro guided fiscal second-quarter revenue to $19.5 billion to $21.5 billion, against an analyst consensus of about $17.5 billion. For the full 2027 fiscal year, which ends in June 2027, it guided revenue to $72 billion to $82 billion.

A $10 billion-wide annual range is unusually broad. It reflects how much Super Micro’s sales depend on when customers’ data centers are ready to receive racks, and on the supply of GPUs from Nvidia and AMD.

The Catch: Gross Margin Fell to 12.8%

Growth came at a price. Gross margin was 12.8%, down 480 basis points from the previous quarter, as AI systems rose to about 71% of the mix. Full AI racks carry expensive third-party GPUs, so Super Micro keeps a thin slice of each sale.

Analysts have flagged competition as part of the pressure. Mizuho cut its price target to $36 from $43 before the report, citing competition, and kept a Neutral rating. Dell, HPE and contract manufacturers all sell AI rack systems to the same buyers.

For investors, the question is whether volume keeps growing fast enough to offset the thinner margins. For data center builders, the lesson is different: the servers are becoming a commodity, while the scarce parts are power, cooling and finished space.

How SMCI Stock Reacted

SMCI stock reaction after fiscal Q1 2027 earnings

Super Micro shares rose roughly 6% to 8% after the report, with one outlet citing an intraday move of as much as 12%, after falling about 28% over the previous month. Google searches for “SMCI stock” rose 100% in the US and 300% in Canada.

The setup was the same as for AMD: three days of selling over AI spending fears, a chip-led rebound on November 3, then a strong report after the close. Reported share prices in the low $30s should be checked against a live quote, because the stock moves several percent on most days.

What Super Micro’s Quarter Tells AI Data Center Builders

Super Micro’s guidance assumes customers can install about $20 billion of servers a quarter. Each of those racks needs a powered, cooled and connected home, and dense AI racks increasingly need liquid cooling and large electrical capacity.

That makes the facility the critical path. Before anyone orders racks, they need answers about the site: power price and availability, cooling type, construction cost and how long the investment takes to pay back.
